We want you to feel good about your food at every point in its journey. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program, which works with Bonded Logic Inc. and Zappos.com’s charitable arm, Zappos For Good, to make it easy to recycle the denim insulation liners included in your box—all at no cost to you.
We use these denim liners to keep your meals safe and fresh while in transit. And while our denim insulation is already 85% biodegradable, you’ll now be able to directly recycle it for free.
We’re on a mission to reduce consumer waste, lessen our overall environmental impact as a company, and introduce more circularity into our packaging. Our pre-portioned meals help reduce food waste—and now, by recycling our denim liners, you can help prevent that denim from ending up in our nation’s landfills.
1) Fill Your Box
2) Print Your Label & Mark it "Freshly"
3) Ship Your Box!
It’s easy! Simply box up any denim insulation liners from your Freshly orders (or any old jeans) that you’d like to recycle, add the prepaid label, and drop off your box at your nearby UPS location.
You can recycle our Freshly denim liners in addition to any old, worn-out denim items (made of at least 90% cotton) through the Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program.
Yes, while you may use any size box you wish, please ensure that your box weighs no more than 50 lbs in total. If your box exceeds 50 lbs., you may send multiple boxes of denim to be recycled (just be sure to print and affix unique prepaid shipping labels to each box sent). The weight on your prepaid label may appear as “2 lbs,” but this will be updated once your package is weighed by UPS.
If your denim liner comes wrapped in a white plastic cover, please remove the recyclable plastic wrap prior to placing the denim liner in your box to send back.
If your denim liner arrives unwrapped, or is wrapped in a shiny, metallic-looking mylar material, simply place it into the box as is. You may notice a light dust or denim residue from this unwrapped liner—have no fear, it’s safe and more environmentally friendly without the plastic wrap (Mother Nature thanks you!). These liners will continue to keep your meals as chilled and fresh as ever while in transit.
You may ship as many boxes as you’d like as long as you print unique shipping labels for each one sent. We recommend including multiple weeks worth of insulation (for most efficient shipping) or as much insulation as you can fit in your box without exceeding the 50-lb limit.
Our collaboration with Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program and Zappos.com’s charitable arm “Zappos for Good” is what allows us to provide you with this free shipping and recycling option. In order to access the free UPS shipping label, simply log in to your Zappos account—or create a new account at no cost to you. Together, we can recycle this resource and keep discarded denim out of our landfills!
Our suggested amounts for this vary depending on how many meals you typically receive each week. For boxes containing 4-6 meals, we recommend adding at least 2-3 denim liner sets per box. For bigger boxes (containing 8-12 meals), you may be able to fit 3-4 liner sets comfortably—or even 5 sets, if space allows.
Yes, of course! You can mail us other denim items and apparel and have them recycled for free thanks to Zappos for Good. Find out more about how to recycle those items here.
